An opname is a site measurement of completed work. It is used for two things: the project’s physical progress, and paying labour contractors. That is why it must be measured, not guessed.
How to measure
- Take the work items and planned quantities from the budget, for example 600 m2 of block wall.
- Measure the quantity installed on site, for example 420 m2.
- Work out the progress: 420 ÷ 600 = 70%.
- Record the date, who measured and who verified.
- Add a new row for every measurement; never overwrite the previous one.
- Count only work that passes inspection. Work that must be redone and material not yet installed do not count.
- For walls measured in m2, subtract door and window openings.
- Record the result in a measurement certificate (berita acara opname) signed by the foreman, site manager and supervisor, with photos.
Example: paying a labour contractor
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Labour contract, block wall | 600 m2 × Rp35,000 = Rp21,000,000 |
| Progress from the measurement | 70% |
| Earned to date | 70% × Rp21,000,000 = Rp14,700,000 |
| Already paid (earlier advances) | Rp12,000,000 |
| Can be paid now | Rp2,700,000 |
When advances already paid are more than what has been earned, the crew has been paid ahead of the work. That can be fine, but it must be visible, because what is left of the contract is then smaller than the work left.

Common mistakes
- Progress estimated from time elapsed instead of measured.
- Advances recorded without their labour contract, so nobody knows what is left of it.
- A new measurement overwrites the old one, so the progress history is lost.

Common questions
What is an opname?
A site measurement of completed work, as a quantity or a percentage, used as the basis for progress and payment.
How is the percentage worked out?
Installed quantity divided by planned quantity. 420 m2 of 600 m2 is 70%.
When are labour contractors paid?
Usually after a measurement: the progress percentage times the contract value, minus what was already paid as advances.
Who verifies the measurement?
The site supervisor or consultant, so the reported progress and the payments can be justified.
